This German, Irish, and Scandinavian town consists of old Victorian buildings and homes that capture the historic atmosphere. With a 20-block Heritage Hill Historic District just north of a vibrant and architecturally recognized downtown, full of locally owned establishments. After the Black Hawk War, Iowa was open for settlement and Burlington became home of the first capitol of the Wisconsin Territory in 1838.

Since 2009, Greater Burlington has benefited from over $300 million in new corporate capital facility investment and the creation of over 1,300 new jobs. During this same period manufacturing has grown to be the area’s largest sector, employing over 20% of the area’s workforce. Greater Burlington is home to many domestic and international companies.

In 2016 and 2017, Greater Burlington was ranked by "Site Selection Magazine" as #1 on the Mississippi River for economic development deal flow. 2017 marked the 5th year in a row, Greater Burlington was recognized as a Top Metropolitan community also by Site Selection Magazine. Greater Burlington’s success is a direct result of its combination of river, road, and rail infrastructure.
